Let me, an “average joe” and a nobody really special in MMA circles, break down the simple facts. In Mitrione’s last five fights in the UFC which to his credit were wins, three of his fallen opponents are not even on the UFC any longer. The first two, Marcus Jones and Kimbo Slice (AKA Kevin Ferguson) did not even belong on the same planet as the UFC. The third, UFC ousted Tim Hague was nothing more than UFC’s equelivant to the old WWF’s “jabroni” fighters. The remaining two victims of Mitrione’s handy work were Joey Beltran and Christian Morecraft who for the time being, are still with the UFC.
So why would a fighter known as “meathead”, with a 5-0 record, try and start a media feud with a former champion like Tito Ortiz to the point of bombarding him with personnel attacks on Ortiz’s family? Either A – Mitrione actually is so disillusioned about his skill set that challenging Ortiz to a fight, who by the way is not even in his weight division, is as natural for Mitrione as Sean McCorkle wearing a “Big Sexy” tank top. Or B – Mitrione wants to ride Ortiz’s coat tails to any where it will take him gaining attention and exposure. Or chose C – all of the above.
Nevertheless, Check Kongo verse Matt Mitrione shall be a treat for me. A step up in fighter caliber, Check Kongo is 2 clicks ahead of Mitrione’s current abilities in the octagon in my opinion. Did I mention that Kongo took the UFC’s current HW champion Cain Velasquez into the third round and lost by decision? Hang on to your sausage hat Meathead, there is real estate still available on dizzy street next door to your buddy Pat Barry.
